Inform Connection is delighted to have presented the NSW Open in conjunction
with NSW Squash and look forward to building this event into one of the
premier events for all squash players. It was a very enjoyable weekend
for all concerned and the spirit of play was excellent. The Thornleigh
Squash Centre was the host of this year's event and with its new roof and
clean surrounds, it was a pleasure conducting the event at this location.
The Open divisions were very well attended and some exciting squash was
witnessed by spectators all weekend. A full results summary is listed below
for all divisions, and there are many photos and several videos to view.
Thanks to NSW Squash and the Referees for doing such a great job and
we look forward to the 2006 NSW Open.
Regards
Lisa Walton

DAY TWO
|
|
This press release was compiled by Gordon Dexter, Squash Australia Media
Liason:
KRONEMEYER, MANNING WIN NSW OPEN TITLES
Dutch
second seed Karen Kronemeyer dashed local favourite Kasey Brown’s hopes of
a first NSW Squash Open crown when she came back to beat the 19-year-old top
seed in four games in the women’s final in Sydney.
World
No.51 Kronemeyer lost the opening game 9-4 but stormed back to win 9-5 9-5
9-5 and deny world No.34 Brown from Taree in NSW a second career WISPA title
following her breakthrough success at the recent WA Open in Perth.
Brown,
chasing a Commonwealth Games spot in Melbourne next March, beat NSW’s
Sarah Nelson 9-0 9-2 9-2 in the semi-final earlier in the day, while
Kronmeyer came back to overcome Stacey Sephton from NSW, 4-9 9-1 9-2 9-3, in
the other semi.
Canberra
’s top seed Tim
Manning won his first NSW Open title after
Sydney
second seed Jeff Bond
suffered a leg injury when trailing two games to one and was forced to
concede the men’s final. Manning took the opener 11-9 and Bond grabbed the
second game 11-8 before Manning regained the advantage 11-7.
While
Manning enjoyed an 11-9 11-10 11-7 straight games semi-final win over
Sydney
’s Luke Hillier
earlier in the day, Bond was stretched to the limit by
Sydney
’s Matthew Karwalski
which may have contributed to his injury later in the day. Bond eventually
won 11-9 8-11 10-11 11-8 11-10
in a marathon five-game match.
The
NSW Open was played at the Thornleigh NSW Squash and Fitness Centre.
