| We had been looking forward to this junior event all year and it was wonderful to once again be interacting with junior squash players from all over Australia. With two days of squash action at the Moorabbin Squash Centre it was all systems go. We welcomed 8 players from Tasmania and it was a real bonus to this event to have you involved. | Saturday Nov 22nd - i-Mask Australian Junior Graded Doubles Championships | |
| Four kids on a squash court is always interesting and this day of doubles was certainly great to watch. From 8 year old's to 23 year old's there were some great matches. Novice players gave it their all and enjoyed being involved in the fast paced doubles games. On the other end of the scale, the A Grade tems were playing hard to win the title and the awesome perpetual trophy from i-Mask. Paul and Nathen Takacs were on a mission to take the title and they won their way through to the finish line in great style. Undefeated for the day, Paul and Nathen were crowned i-Mask Australian Junior Graded Doubles Champions for 2008. In the girls division, Sarah Cardwell and Sarah Dennehy won the Girls A Grade title, well done girls! A very big thank-you to Max and June Moorhouse for their continued support from i-Mask and we and the players greatly appreciate that involvement you have with this event and the sport in general. | |
| Hi-tec 3/4 Court Australian Championships | |
| This is a highlight of the weekend every year - it is the World's fastest tournament - running for 65 minutes!! Every player in the singles events were entered into the 3/4 court draws to do battle for the free pair of Hi-tec 4SYS shoes worth $169. The session started with older players being nice to younger players however when it got down to the final 8 players - it was ON!! There were some terrific rallies and with the winner of each match-up progressing through to the next round after a best of 3 point game there were no second chances!! The final 8 players were Paul Takacs, George Hamer, William Jephcott, William Katrivisis, Leigh Sands, Tim Funge, Nathen Takacs and Sarah Dennehy. George defeated Paul, Will Jephcott defeated the other Will, Leigh defeated Tim and Nathen defeated Sarah. Now into the Semi-finals the going got tough and we had some awesome rallies. In the end, William Jephcott and Nathen Takacs made the final and after a serious battle, Nathen Takacs was the champion. So to date, Nathen had won doubles with Paul and was now the Hi-tec 3/4 Court Champion. Could he take out the Singles title as well??? | |

The singles on the Sunday was comprehensive with laods of different graded
events taking place. We had many new players who had never played an event
and they participated in great spirit. It was good to see parents and
coaches involved but in most cases (!!) it was all very encouraging and fun.
The girls A Grade was decided between Jasmine Chan and Sarah Dennehy, with
Sarah defeating Jasmine 46/15 to become the A Grade Champion. In the Boys A
Grade, it was great to see George Hamer in this division playing up with the
"big boys" and he held his own very well. One to watch boys!! Many
of the same names from the Hi-tec finals were involved in the final stages
of this draw. Who made the final?? Paul and Nathen Takacs of course!! It was
always going to be close.......and the final match ended up being a one
point cliff hanger! Nathen did it, he won all three events making him our
overall Champion. Well done Nathen! Paul, you will have to come back next
year and give it another go!
