EVENT REPORT (links to results and photos are at the bottom of the page)
What a fabulous weekend of squash! The i-Mask Australian Junior Graded Doubles Championships kicked off the event and it was excellent to once again welcome Max Moorhouse from i-Mask. Max travels every year to this event and provides some really excellent, high quality trophies for participants. This year it was hand made wooden boxes made from Tasmanian Myrtle. Max goes to a lot of trouble organising the trophies and I know that the players appreciate it. I was wanting one of those boxes for myself!! The doubles was great to watch and we saw some high level squash throughout. The A Grade final was very entertaining and as the whistle blew at the end of time, scores were level. The final point was the decider and as the crowd watched, the match was decided by one point. The player who everyone picked on all weekend (who shall not be named!) was very unlucky to have lost the point and we believe they did an extremely good job on the day so BACK OFF everyone!!!! Thanks to everyone who played and also to the Boys D Grade for giving it such a good go.
The Sunday saw the Grays Australian Junior Graded Championships take place and once again the day was excellent. We had loads of new players and we enjoyed catching up with players and parents we had not seen for some time. There were some really close matches during the day with many decided by one point and we always like to see this. The Boys A Grade final was also very good to watch with Steve Robinson overcoming the number one seed Matthew Karwalski from NSW by 3 points as the whistle blew.
Also on the Sunday was the Hi-tec 3/4 Court Championships and with everyone automatically entered, it was a fun hour. We had a crowd favourite (Justin Singh), a villan (Steve Robinson) and lots of people hoping to make it through to the final 8. Nathen Takacs and Matt Karwalski were the eventual finalists and at one point all it could have gone either way. Matthew hung in for the win and took home $50 and a new pair of 4SYS Hi-tec Shoes for his efforts. Make sure you have alook at the results and photos on the pages linked below.
Thanks for playing this event and we look forward to seeing you all next year!! Wishing you and your families a very safe and festive holiday season.
Lisa Walton and the Inform Team.
